Lynes, Frank

Frank Lynes (1858 - 1913, Bio:

Composer, pianist, and organist Frank Lynes was born in 1858 in cambridge, Massachusetts. At an early age he became a student at the renowned New England Conservatory where he concentrated on piano, organ, and theory. Later he attended the Leipzig Conservatory where his piano teacher was Carl Reinecke. Lynes himself became attracted to teaching and saw a need for training young musicians in basic skills. He taught in the Boston area and became well known for his insistence on pupils' musical knowledge keeping pace with their performance, a very modern thought for the time. He produced music for teaching (in piano alone, at least 17 collections and many single sheets) and became prominent in the Boston musical life as a teacher, composer, and choral director. Education remained a passion, and he seldom wrote a piano piece, for example, without some teaching principal in mind. He also created many songs and anthems (both sacred and secular).  This much admired teacher and composer passed on in 1913 in new Hampshire.
